Rabshakeh
Holman Bible Dictionary
(rab sshuh rihss) Assyrian title, literally, “chief cupbearer.” The position probably began as a mere butler but developed into a highly influential post by the time of its mention in the Bible. The official who dealt with Hezekiah spoke for the Assyrian king much as would an ambassador. He urged the people of Jerusalem to consider turning over their king if he refused to pay the tribute demanded by the Assyrian throne (2 Kings 18:17-35 ). Mike Mitchell
