Respect of Persons

Holman Bible Dictionary

Honor and partiality. Respect or honor is to be shown to older men (Leviticus 19:32; compare Lamentations 5:12 ), to public officials (Romans 13:7 ), to parents (1 Timothy 3:4 ), masters (1 Peter 2:18 ), and Christian leaders (1 Thessalonians 5:12 ). Christians are to live in such a way that they command the respect of neighbors and thus serve as effective witnesses (1 Thessalonians 4:12 ). Scripture repeatedly affirms that God is no respecter of persons, that is, that God does not show partiality; thus God's people are to refrain from prejudice. See Partiality .
