Rosetta Stone
Holman Bible Dictionary
Stone monument engraved with a trilingual text (Egyptian hieroglyphic, Demotic, and Greek), honoring Ptolemy V Epiphanes (196 B.C.), which provided the necessary clues for deciphering the two dead languages (Egyptian hieroglyphic and Demotic). The name stems from the site of the stone's discovery in the Nile delta in 1799. See Archaeology; Egypt .
