Samgar-Nebo
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ssam' gahr-nee' boh) Personal name of Babylonian official who accompanied Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon in capturing Jerusalem in 587 B.C. according to Hebrew text (Jeremiah 39:3 ). Many modern scholars seek to reconstruct the original Akkadian name. Such reconstructions relate the name to a city—Simmagir—known from other Babylonian records. This would mean the previous person in the list—Nergal-sharezer—was from the city (REB, compare NIV). Other scholars see Samgar-Nebo as a title describing the position Nergal-sharezer held.
