(sshal' luhn) Personal name meaning, “replacer” or “the replaced.” 1. King of Israel (752 B.C.). He assassinated Zechariah and was, in turn, assassinated by Menahem a month later (2 Kings 15:10-15 ). 2 . See 3. Jehoahaz . 3. Husband of Huldah (2 Kings 22:14 ). 4 . A gatekeeper (1Chronicles 9:17,1Chronicles 9:19,1 Chronicles 9:31; compare Ezra 2:42; Nehemiah 7:45 ). This may be the same as Shelemiah (1 Chronicles 26:14 ) and Meshelemiah (1 Chronicles 9:21; 1 Chronicles 26:1-14 ), since these names are closely related in Hebrew. 5. A chief priest (1 Chronicles 6:13; Ezra 7:2 ). 6 . Descendant of Judah (1 Chronicles 2:40 ). 7 . Jeremiah's uncle (Jeremiah 32:7 ). 8 . Temple doorkeeper (Jeremiah 35:4 ). 9 . Descendant of Simeon (1 Chronicles 4:25 ). 10 . Descendant of Naphtali (1 Chronicles 7:13 ). 11 . Father of Jehizkiah (2 Chronicles 28:12 ). 12 . Porter who agreed to divorce his foreign wife (Ezra 10:24 ). 13 . Israelite with a foreign wife (Ezra 10:42 ). 14 . Supervisor of half of Jerusalem who helped Nehemiah rebuild the walls (Nehemiah 3:12 ).
