Shearjashub

Holman Bible Dictionary

(sshee' ahr jay' sshuhb) Symbolic personal name meaning, “a remnant shall return.” First son of the prophet Isaiah, born probably around 737 B.C., near the beginning of his father's ministry in Jerusalem. Isaiah apparently named him (and his brother, Mahershalalhashbaz) as an embodiment of prophecy, that Judah would fall, but a remnant would survive. On one occasion, Shearjashub accompanied his father on a trip to assure King Ahaz that the alliance of Syria and Israel would not be allowed to harm Judah (Isaiah 7:3-7 ). See Isaiah .
