Shelomith

Holman Bible Dictionary

(sshih loh' mihth) Feminine form of Shelomoth. 1. Head of a family which returned from Babylonian Exile with Ezra about 458 B.C. (Ezra 8:10 ). 2 . Son of King Rehoboam (2 Chronicles 11:20 ). 3 . Cousin of Moses and head of a Levitical group (1 Chronicles 23:18 ); apparently the same as Shelomoth (1 Chronicles 24:22 ). 4 . Priest over the cultic treasury under David (1 Chronicles 26:25-28 , where Hebrew scribes have interchanged Shelomith and Shelomoth). 5. Woman of tribe of Dan whose son cursed the divine name, thus being guilty of blasphemy. The Israelites followed God's orders and stoned him to death (Leviticus 24:10-23 ). 6 . Daughter of Zerubbabel (1 Chronicles 3:19 ).
