Translation of six Hebrew words and a Greek word in RSV and of at least ten Hebrew and ten Greek words in KJV:1. An adverb meaning, “very, extremely” as in “sore afraid” (Genesis 20:8 ). 2 . An adverb meaning, “severely, insistently, with urgent pressure” as in “they pressed sore” (Genesis 19:9 ). 3 . To experience pain (Genesis 34:25 ). 4 . “Strong, severe” as in “the famine was sore” (Genesis 43:1 ). 5 . A wounded or diseased spot or a plague (Leviticus 13:42 ). 6 . Something evil or bad (Deuteronomy 6:22; Deuteronomy 28:35 ). 7 . A great amount as in “wept sore” (Judges 21:2 ). 8 . With vexation or anger (1 Samuel 1:6 ). 9 . Cruel, tough, obstinate (1 Samuel 5:7 ). 10 . Fully, greatly (Nehemiah 2:2 ). 11 . Hand (Psalm 77:2 ). 12 . Weakness or sickness (Ecclesiastes 5:13 ). 13 . Horrible, terrible (Ezekiel 27:35 ). 14 . Large, exceeding (Daniel 6:14 ). 15 . Pressing, irritating (Micah 2:10 ). 16 . An ulcer (Revelation 16:2 ). 17 . Blisters or boils (Exodus 9:9 ). See Boils. 18. An inflamed spot sometimes interpreted as smallpox or a skin disease akin to leprosy (Exodus 9:9-11; Leviticus 13:18-20; 2 Kings 20:7; Isaiah 38:21 ). 19 . A wound (Genesis 4:23; Isaiah 53:5 ).
