Stubble

Holman Bible Dictionary

Stalks of grain dried out in the field or left on the threshing floor. It is sometimes translated straw or chaff. Stubble burns quickly and can be blown away by the wind. Figuratively it is used of God's judgment (Joel 2:5; Isaiah 5:24 ). Stubble was used by God's people to make bricks while they were slaves in Egypt (Exodus 5:12 ).
