Succoth Benoth

Holman Bible Dictionary

(ssyooc' cohth-bee' nohth) Divine name meaning, “booths of daughters.” A pagan deity which people from Babylon brought with them to Israel when it was resettled by the Assyrians after the fall of Samaria in 722 B.C. (2 Kings 17:30 ). Interpreters disagree concerning the identification of this idol. Many feel that it is likely Sarpanitu, the consort of Marduk. See Gods, Pagan; Sakkuth .
