Syrophoenician
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ssee roh fuhih nih' shuhn) Phoenician from Syria rather than from North Africa (Libyphoenicians). Mark 7:26 speaks of a Greek woman who was “a Syrophoenician by nation.” A parallel account calls her “a woman of Canaan” ( Matthew 15:22 ), the ancient name for these people.
