Holman Bible Dictionary
(tab' eh ruh) Aramaic personal name meaning, “God is good.” 1. Father of a man whom king Rezin of Damascus and king Pekah of Israel hoped to install as puppet king of Judah rather than Ahaz (Isaiah 7:6 ). Alternately, Tabeel designates a region in northern Transjordan and home of the potential puppet. Spelling has been slightly changed in Hebrew to mean, “good for nothing.” 2. Persian official in Samaria who joined in a letter protesting the reconstruction of the Jerusalem Temple (Ezra 4:7 ).
