Holman Bible Dictionary

(tap' pihuhuhuh) Personal name meaning, “apple” or “quince.” 1. A Calebite, likely a resident of a town near Hebron (1 Chronicles 2:43 ). 2 . City in the Shephelah district of Judah (Joshua 15:34 ), possibly Beit Nettif about twelve miles west of Bethlehem. 3. City of the north border of Ephraim (Joshua 16:8 ) whose environs were allotted to Manasseh (Joshua 17:7-8 ), likely the Tappuah of Joshua 12:17 and 2 Kings 15:16 . The site is perhaps Sheikh Abu Zarod about eight miles southwest of Shechem. Some scholars read, “Tappuah” for “Tiphsah” in 2 Kings 15:16 (REB). See Beth-Tappuah; En-Tappuah .
