Via Dolorosa

Holman Bible Dictionary

(vi a-doh luh roh' ssa) Literally, “the way of suffering,” the Via Dolorosa was marked after A.D. 1300 as the route over which Christ was led to His crucifixion. Fourteen places along the streets of Old Jerusalem have been revered as “stations” of the cross. Nine of these spots are marked by churches and shrines. The exact route is disputed among believers, just as is the place of crucifixion.
