Vessel that held oil, usually for anointing purposes (1 Samuel 10:1 KJV, NRSV; “flask” NAS, NIV). The same word is used a number of times in the Book of Revelation ( 1 Samuel 5:8; 1 Samuel 15:7; 1Samuel 16:1-4,1Samuel 16:8,1Samuel 16:10,1Samuel 16:12,1 Samuel 16:17; 1 Samuel 17:1; 1 Samuel 21:9; “bowls,” NAS, NIV, NRSV).
