Zadokites
Holman Bible Dictionary
(zay' dahk ihtess) Descendants of Zadok, a chief priest with David and Solomon. As a reward for Zadok's loyalty to Solomon and as punishment for the sins of Eli's sons, Zadok's descendants (the line of Eliezer) replaced the descendants of Ithamar as the leading priests. The developing role of Jerusalem as the exclusive center of Israel's worship furthered the position of the Zadokites. See High Priest; Priests and Levites; Zadok .
