Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible

AMRAM . 1 . A Levite, son of Kohath and grandson of Levi ( Num 3:17-19 , 1 Chronicles 6:2-3; 1 Chronicles 6:18 ). He married Jochebed his father’s sister, by whom he begat Aaron and Moses ( Exodus 6:18-20 ) and Miriam ( Numbers 26:59 , 1 Chronicles 6:3 ). The Amramites are mentioned in Numbers 3:27 , 1 Chronicles 26:23 . 1 Chronicles 26:2 . A son of Bani who had contracted a foreign marriage ( Ezra 10:34 ).
