Dominican philosopher, theologian, and scientist, born Lauingen, Swabia, c.1206;died Cologne, Germany, 1280. He taught at Cologne and Paris, where he had Thomas Aquinas among his pupils, and compiled an encyclopedia of the learning of his day. His study of the natural sciences was in advance of his time.
