Ardagh Chalice

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Vessel of Irish workmanship of the 9th or 10th century, found near Ardagh, now in the Irish Academy, Dublin. It is a "ministerial" chalice, with two handles, made of silver alloy, richly ornamented with gold and enamel. The inscription gives the names of the Apostles. It is probably the work of the School of Clonmacnoise.
