1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(1796-1874,/a>) Novelist, born Kilkenny, Ireland; died Booterstown. He was an active worker in educational and economic movements, and wrote The Croppy, Father Connell, and, in collaboration with his brother, John, The Tales of the O'Hara Family. The Banims rank as the leading Irish national novelists. Their purpose was to do for Ireland what Walter Scott did for Scotland.
