Battandier, Albert

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(1850-1921) Scholar, born Saint Félicien, Ardêche, France; died there. Educated at the Jesuit college of Mongre, near Lyons, and at the seminary of Viviers, he was ordained, 1875, and won his degree in theology and canon law at the French seminary in Rome, 1879. Appointed consultor of the Congregation of Bishops and Regulars, 1881,/a>, he soon became recognized as an authority on church legislation and on laws of religious communities. After publishing several ecclesiastical works, he began to edit, in 1898, with the cooperation of Father Vincent de Paul Bailly, the Annuaire pontifical catholique.
