Truce formed between Catholics and Huguenots in France confirmed by the Edict of Poitiers, 1577. Huguenot worship was restricted to suburbs of one town in each bailiwick and to places where it had been hitherto practised. Freedom of worship had been granted by the Edict of Beaulieu (1576) but this toleration had met with great opposition and had resulted in renewal of civilwar.
