1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Jesuit theologian and cardinal. Born Vitulamo, near Benevento, Italy, 1833; died Rome, Italy, 1900. Expelled with his order from Italy, he taught theology at Fourvieres, and at Georgetown University, Washington. He was professor at Woodstock College, Maryland. Called to Rome to teach at the Gregorian University. President of the Academy of Saint Thomas. Prefect of the Congregation of the Index, Congregation of Studies, and Congregation of Rites. Cardinal-Bishop of Palestrina.
