1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(upland fields) The largest Indian tribe of Iroquoian stock, formerly occupying the Alleghany region, now living in Oklahoma with the exception of about 1,300 in North Carolina. The whole tribe has been Christianized by Catholic and Protestant missionaries. They number about 20,000 of pure and mixed blood and have been admitted to citizenship.
