Chester, England
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Ancient diocese, founded schismatically by Henry VIII, 1541, and canonically recognized by the pope, 1556. In various earlier times, however, as in 1075, it possessed a bishop and a cathedral. The last Catholic incumbent, Cuthbert Scott, died at Louvain, 1564.
