Congregation of the Consistory

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Office of the Roman Curia, next in importance to that of the Holy Office. One section of it provides for the establishment, in places not subject to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, of new dioceses, collegiate and cathedral chapters, and the election of bishops; the other section attends to all the business of renewing and supervising the administration of dioceses, reports of the bishop or administrators, appointment of Apostolic visitors, and the government, temporal administration, and discipline of seminaries.
