Clarendon, Constitutions of
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
At a council held at Clarendon, Wiltshire, England, 1164, Henry II forced Thomas Becket and the English bishops to accept 16 constitutions, encroaching upon the rights of the Church, which he alleged to be customs of the realm.
