Coulomb, Charles Augustin
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
French Catholic physicist. Born June 14, 1736; died August 23, 1806. Famous for his researches on the laws of friction and for his invention of the "torsion balance," an instrument to detect and measure electricity. The coulomb, the practical unit of quantity of electricity, is named in his honor.
