Crescens, Saint

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

First century bishop, disciple of the Apostles. He was the companion of Saint Paul during his second Roman captivity, and is mentioned as having left the Apostle to go into Galatia (2 Timothy 4). The earliest tradition presents him as Bishop in Galatia. Later accounts made him Bishop of Vienne and Mainz, but these claims have little weight. According to the Roman Martyrology he was martyred under TraJanuary Feast, June 27,; translation of relics, December 29,.
