Graduale

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

A liturgical book containing the choral parts of the Mass. Before the time of Gregory I (590-604), the responses and antiphons for the Mass and for the Divine Office were contained in one book called the Antiphonary. At present it is customary to have two separate books, the Graduale containing the Ordinary and Propers of the Mass, together with the Asperges me and the Ordo sepeUendi, and the Breviary with its Common and Proper Offices.
