Guise, Charles

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Born 1524; died 1574. Known as the Cardinal of Guise, brother of Francois, was Archbishop of Rheims, and founded a university there. He was present at the Council of Trent, where his advocacy of the views of Charles IX of France, distinctly Gallican in character, brought him into disfavor with Pius IV.
