1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Term used in Scripture studies, especially of the four Gospels, to designate:

  1. an explanation of differences found in various accounts of the same events
  2. a combination of all four Gospels into one continuous narrative of which a good example is H. Beauclerk's "Jesus: A Diatessaron" (London, 1896)
  3. an arrangement of the Gospels, each in proper narrative, according to historical order
