1910 New Catholic Dictionary

French Catholic priest and mineralogist. Born February 28, 1743 at Saint Juste, France; died June 3, 1822 at Paris, France. One of the pioneers in pyro-electricity. Founded the science of crystallography. Formulated the geometrical law of crystallization known by his name. Drew up a system of classification of minerals. Merited by his discoveries of the laws of the formation and structure of crystals the title of "Father of Crystallography."
