Hermann von Mallinckrodt

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Statesman, born Minden, Westphalia, 1821; died Berlin, Germany, 1874. Entering the Prussian Parliament, 1852, he assisted in founding the Catholic Fraction, later called the Center Party, to defend Catholic rights. He opposed the war with Austria and the annexation of Hanover and Hesse. After 1870 he shared the Center leadership with Reichensperger and Windthorst. He was an energetic orator, lucid and logical, though lacking Windthorst's wit. Brother of Pauline von Mallinckrodt.
