Knights of Saint Columba

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

A British fraternal order of Catholic men, founded in Glasgow in 1920, having a constitution and object similar to the Knights of Columbus in America, but entirely independent, under the control of an elected Supreme Knight, officers, and a board of directors. The order is non-political, qualification consisting solely in practical Catholicity. Though largely composed of laymen, ecclesiastics are admitted as members and are eligible for any office; membership, about 20,000 in 210 Councils, each Council being autonomous, presided over by a Grand Knight, and having a Chaplain authorized by the bishop of the diocese.
