Larrey, Baron Dominique Jean
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Born Baudean, 1766; died Lyons, France, 1842. Surgeon-in-chief of the Napoleonic armies and favorite of the Emperor by whom he was ennobled on the field of Wagram, 1809. Initiated the modern method of army surgery and the system of army ambulance corps. His writings, still regarded as valuable sources of surgical and medical knowledge, have been translated into all modern languages.
