1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Comprises the northern peninsula of the State of Michigan. Establised as the Vicariate Apostolic of Upper Michigan on July 29, 1853. Elevated to the Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie on January 9, 1857. Name changed to the Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie-Marquette on October 23, 1865. Name changed to the diocese of Marquette on January 3, 1937. Suffragan of the archdiocese of Detroit. See also:
