Melancholy
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
An habitual viewing of things in a dark light, inducing disturbance of judgment and weakness of will through the concomitant aversion for serious effort. Hence follows an inclination to self-indulgence under various forms, sometimes self-pity in imaginary or exaggerated grievances, sometimes sensuality, or the use of drugs.
