Mobile, Alabama, Archdiocese of
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Established as a Prefecture Apostolic in 1824. Elevated to the Vicariate Apostolic of Alabama and the Floridas on August 29, 1825. Elevated to the diocese of Mobile on May 15, 1829, a suffragan of the archdiocese of New Orleans. The name was changed to the diocese of Mobile-Birmingham on April 20, 1954. The diocese was split and the name changed back to the diocese of Mobile on June 28, 1969. Elevated to an archdiocese on July 29, 1980. Suffgran dioceses include,
