Founder of the "Catholic Review," born Dublin, Ireland, 1846; died Brooklyn, New York, 1889. His periodical adopted the ideals of progressive modern journalism, and for a time met with success as a high-class weekly. Hickey also printed in 1888 "The Catholic American" and the "Illustrated Catholic American." He was noted for his zeal for religion and generosity to the Church, and in 1888 received the Laetare Medal.
