Founded as the vicariate Apostolic of Oregon Territory on December 1, 1843. Elevated to the diocese of Oregon City on July 24, 1846. Elevated to the archdiocese of Oregon City on July 29, 1850. Name changed to the archdiocese Portland in Oregon on September 26, 1928. Suffragan dioceses include:
- Baker, Oregon
- Boise, Idaho
- Great Falls-Billings, Montana
- Helena, Montana
