Protectories
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
(Latin: protegere, to shelter)
Institutions for the care and training of problem children, wayward, delinquent, etc. The name is generally reserved to institutions in the care of Catholic brothers. Corresponding institutions under public auspices are generally called industrial schools, or under an older name, reform schools.
