Singing, Congregational

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

As a means of aiding the piety of the faithful and of increasing the solemnity of Church service, is strongly recommended in the Motu Proprio of Pius X of November 22, 1903, and in the "Divini Cultus Sanctitatem" (Holiness of Divine Worship) of February 6, 1929. To enable members of the congregation to sing properly, several schools have been started in various places of late years, like the Society of Saint Gregory in England, and the foundations of Justine Ward at Manhattanville College, New York, the Catholic University of America, and Rome.
