Speculation
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
In matters pertaining to faith, the word means the work of the human mind on the deposit of faith in order to inquire whether such or such doctrine not yet defined by the Church is revealed by God, or to construct philosophical explanations of truths certainly contained in the deposit of Revelation. Speculation begins where faith ends.
