German physician. Born July 1, 1818 at Lahr, Baden, Germany; died November 22, 1884 at Tübingen, Germany. Studied at the universities of Berlin, Göttingen, Vienna, and Heidelberg. Founded sphygmography. Developed techniques and tools for the monitoring blood circulation.
