Beth-Phage

Hawker's Poor Man's Concordance And Dictionary

A well-known village, mentioned in the gospel, (see Matthew 21:1) It should seem to be derived from Pep, opening; and Geeah, valley: the house of the valley. Probably, the opening of the valley at the foot of the mount of Olives. Here it was that Christ fulfilled that remarkable prophecy of Zechariah. (Zechariah 9:9 with Matthew 21:4-5; Mark 11:1; Luke 19:28; John 12:14)
