People's Dictionary of the Bible

Barsabas (bär'sa-bas), son of Saba. 1. The surname of Joseph, also surnamed Justus, one of the first disciples of Christ. He was one of the candidates for the vacancy in the apostleship, occasioned by the fall of Judas Iscariot. Acts 1:23. 2. The surname of Judas, a Christian teacher, and one of the "chief men among the brethren." Acts 15:22; Acts 15:27; Acts 15:32.
