People's Dictionary of the Bible

Parthians (pär'thi-anz). Acts 2:9. The inhabitants of Parthia. It lay east of Media. Parthia was raised into a distinct kingdom by Arsaces, b.c. 256. It soon extended itself over a great part of the ancient Persian empire. The Parthians were esteemed the most expert horsemen and archers in the world; and their skill in discharging arrows while in full flight Is frequently celebrated by Roman poets.
