Romans (rô'manz), Epistle to. It was written at Corinth, a.d. 58, as Paul was leaving that city for Jerusalem. Romans 15:25; comp. Acts 20:2-3; Acts 20:16; Romans 16:1; Romans 16:23; 1 Corinthians 1:14; 2 Timothy 4:20. It is the fullest exposition of the great truth that the gospel is the power of salvation unto all who believe. This epistle is designed to correct certain misapprehensions, and to show that the system of Jewish rites and ceremonies is done away by the gospel dispensation, and that the way of salvation through Christ is opened alike to Jews and Gentiles, and that whosoever will may come directly and hopefully to Jesus Christ for salvation and pardon from sin.
