People's Dictionary of the Bible

Ruth (ruth), a friend, or, according to others, beauty. Ruth 1:4. A Moabitish woman who married a son of Naomi and left her own country to follow her mother-in-law into Judæa. Her kindness was abundantly rewarded, as she soon after married Boaz, and became the ancestor of the royal family of David, and appears in the genealogy of Christ. Matthew 1:6.
